Essence Mother & Baby Clinic was started to give women in Johannesburg South a personal, midwife-led alternative: care that is unhurried, respectful and close to home.
Meet Risuna
Founder, registered nurse and midwife.
Risuna is a registered professional nurse and midwife, and the founder and director of Essence. She leads the antenatal visits, the births and the postnatal care herself, so the person who knows your pregnancy is the one with you in labour.
She built Essence around a simple idea: that birth should feel safe, calm and yours. That means time to ask questions, a doula at your side, clear prices, and an honest plan for when a doctor or hospital is the safer choice.

Continuity
The same midwife from your first visit to your six-week check.
Safety first
A compulsory gynae review at 36 weeks, and referral or transfer whenever you or your baby need it.
Support
A doula at every birth, and classes, massage and breastfeeding help when you want them.
Clarity
Published prices, a clear payment plan, and your invoices and balance online in the patient portal.
